A great outdoor space isn’t just about adding a patio or a hot tub. It’s about creating somewhere people genuinely want to spend time, whether that’s a quiet morning coffee, a dinner that stretches late into the evening, or a backyard full of people in the middle of winter. This project was designed around that idea, turning the exterior of the home into a flexible, highly detailed space built for year-round west coast living.
The backyard combines comfort, durability, and a surprising amount of technical coordination behind the scenes. Custom cast-in-place concrete and tile work give the space a clean, architectural feel, while the hot tub area was carefully tailored to the client right down to the jet placement. Above the deck, an operable metal roof system opens for sun and closes for coverage depending on the weather, all controlled from a wall-mounted keypad. Integrated heaters, lighting, retractable screens, and a concealed gutter system help the space function seamlessly through every season.
There’s personality woven throughout the project too. A custom BBQ was built directly into the siding, while the front yard includes a pitch-and-putt setup complete with a hidden pipe running beneath the front walkway so golf balls can travel from one side to the other. Projects like this take time, and this one certainly did. It required close collaboration between the builder, landscape architect, pool team, and trades to execute the level of detail throughout. Virtual hug to Rina for helping pull it all together.
