The existing home had strong bones, but it needed a complete rethink to better support modern family life. The house was fully gutted, with all new windows, doors, mechanical systems, and a new staircase helping reshape the flow of the home from the inside out.
One of the biggest priorities was preserving the original character while improving performance. The existing truck decking and exposed beams were kept and refinished, bringing warmth and texture back into the space. Above, a secondary insulated roof was added to improve energy efficiency without losing the architectural feel of the original structure. Recessed lighting was carefully integrated throughout, modernizing the home while letting the natural materials remain the focus.
Functionality drove many of the decisions. A double-wide office was built into the basement so two people could comfortably work from home, while details like the appliance garage helped keep everyday clutter out of sight. Outside, the full-size pool and outdoor shower turned the backyard into an extension of the home. Even the temperature controls for the shower were thoughtfully tucked away inside the mechanical room to keep things safe for kids. The result is a home that feels clean, durable, and built for real life without sacrificing personality along the way.
